BKS Makeup Requirements: Full BKS stage makeup is mandatory for Company Members, Ballet 4 - 6 Students, Lead Roles, and Ultimate Aerialists. Minimal stage makeup is optional for all other students. If any younger students wish to wear stage makeup, please reference the BKS Makeup Guidelines listed below.

Why do dancers wear stage makeup? BKS Dancers wear stage makeup to accentuate their existing, natural beauty. Dance is a performing art, and that is why we love it. Performers are responsible for illustrating their art to their audience - all the way up to the last row! Bright stage lights, far distances, and flashy costumes can make it easy to appear washed-out on stage. Wearing stage makeup can drastically enhance the visibility of facial features, allowing the performers emotions and expressions to shine through.
